Compass Datacenters CEO Chris Crosby highlighted the company’s Red Oak, Texas, campus as an example of how data center developers can contribute to host communities. The campus includes 10 data center buildings and a Schneider Electric manufacturing facility, employs about 900 people, and has been associated with a $15 million animal shelter and a $12.6 million Texas State Technical College training facility for data center and skilled-trades careers.

Crosby said the facility uses a hybrid cooling system and has not used water for cooling, limiting site water use primarily to bathrooms. He also said Compass donated seven parcels to a transmission provider to route power lines without eminent domain and argued that data center companies should help fund grid upgrades while addressing concerns about electricity demand, noise, light pollution and local infrastructure.
