The Louisville Metro Planning and Zoning Committee heard recommendations on how to regulate data center development as local residents call for stronger controls. Planning administrator Robin Palm cited Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, where proposed data center projects could total 12 million square feet, and urged Louisville officials to establish clear standards before projects receive approval.

Discussion included concrete sound-barrier walls, landscaping, electricity demand and water consumption. Palm said water-saving cooling systems can require more power, while waste heat could potentially be captured for community use. The committee is still drafting regulations, and no specific Louisville data center project approval was reported.
