OpenAI to press ahead with data-centre expansion despite midterm sweep, CFO says
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar said the company will continue expanding its U.S. data center footprint despite growing political opposition and expectations of tighter scrutiny after the midterm elections. OpenAI plans to stop using nondisclosure agreements with public officials and provide residents with construction plans and potential impact information.
OpenAI will proceed with its U.S. data center expansion despite a Democratic midterm sweep that has intensified concerns about regulatory scrutiny and community opposition. CFO Sarah Friar said the company will continue working with communities to secure the computing capacity needed to meet customer demand.
OpenAI also announced that it will no longer use nondisclosure agreements when discussing prospective sites with public officials and will give residents access to construction plans and information about potential impacts. Opposition to data centers was a prominent campaign issue, particularly in Texas, while Google separately announced a $17 billion investment in its first Wyoming data center.
