SpaceXAI announced over 100 job openings for its data center facilities located in Memphis, Tennessee, and Southaven, Mississippi. The positions, totaling 127, span various fields including construction management, engineering (electrical, mechanical, facilities, software, civil, operations), and hospitality roles like cook, executive chef, hospitality supervisor, and barista.
Simultaneously, the Memphis City Council deferred a crucial vote on a temporary moratorium for new data center developments until October 6. This postponement also includes discussions regarding the distribution of tax revenue generated by SpaceXAI, which established its presence in Memphis over a year ago. The proposed measures could significantly influence the water and electricity consumption of large data centers and reshape the approval process for future projects. Key proposals include instituting a temporary halt on permits for data center developments, establishing a new comprehensive review process for major projects with specific water and fiscal requirements, and introducing new regulations for water usage, conservation, and renewable energy adoption. Additionally, the council has requested the Shelby County Health Department to present data on environmental pollution linked to SpaceXAI's operations during the October 6 meeting.
