Environmental activists, local organizations, and members of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation rallied outside the Buffalo Irish Center in Buffalo, N.Y., to protest a proposed data center development at the STAMP site in Genesee County. The demonstration coincided with a fundraiser attended by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday evening.

The protest, organized by various local groups and environmental advocates, specifically called for a statewide moratorium on new data center development. Although Governor Hochul did not engage directly with the demonstrators, she had earlier discussed New York's interest in data centers, emphasizing that such developments must meet certain standards.

Stream Data Centers, the company behind the Genesee County project, states that the facility would create 125 permanent jobs at the STAMP site and approximately 1,200 construction jobs during its buildout.
