New York Lawmakers Push for Data Center Moratorium

New York lawmakers, advocates, and community leaders convened at the state Capitol in Albany on Wednesday to advocate for a proposed statewide temporary moratorium on new data centers. Nicole Neuman reported on the initiative, which seeks to halt further development of data centers across New York. Concurrently, other advocates and lawmakers in Albany were promoting legislation designed to safeguard New Yorkers from online scams. Sarah O'Quinn, U.S. director of public affairs at the Center for Countering Digital Hate, elaborated on the issue, noting that New Yorkers collectively lose an estimated $6.5 billion annually to such fraudulent activities.
