Minnesota Localities Enact and Propose Data Center Moratoriums

Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, has officially passed a data center moratorium. The decision by the Pequot Lakes local government halts or restricts new data center development within the city. Concurrently, neighboring Carlton County is also advancing discussions regarding an interim ordinance for a data center moratorium. A motion for this ordinance was initiated at the Carlton County Committee of the Whole meeting on July 7, 2026, indicating active consideration for similar restrictions on data center development in that area.
