The City of Tucson revoked a construction water meter after discovering a contractor allegedly transported city water outside the service area for dust control at the Project Blue data center site. The Mayor and City Council had previously rejected any involvement or water use for the project. The developer, Beale Infrastructure, stated they are now procuring an alternative water source.

The City of Tucson has revoked a construction water meter, citing the alleged unauthorized transportation of city water outside its service area by a contractor. City Manager Timothy Thomure sent a letter to Brendan Gallagher of Beale Infrastructure, the developer behind the Project Blue data center, notifying him of the termination of the meter obtained by Ames Construction. The city's action comes after the Tucson Mayor and City Council unanimously rejected any involvement with or support for the Project Blue data center development, specifically refusing to provide city water resources. Thomure demanded an immediate cessation of water exploitation for the project and requested the transfer of 2 acre-feet of water credits to Tucson Water. Beale Infrastructure responded by stating their contractor followed standard procedure and will be billed, adding that they are now procuring construction water from an alternative non-drinking source.
