Manitowoc County is moving forward with a new draft ordinance aimed at regulating future data center development, following the enactment of an 18-month moratorium in April. County Executive Tyler Martell announced that the county's plan commission and corporate counsel are developing the ordinance, which is intended to provide community protection once the current moratorium expires next September.

Martell indicated that the draft ordinance is nearing completion and will soon be presented to the plan commission. He emphasized the county's commitment to public involvement, stating that there will be multiple public hearings and meetings to allow residents to review the draft ordinance well in advance of any vote. The initial moratorium was enacted after the Towns of Mishicot, Two Rivers, and Two Creeks requested it, prompted by data center representatives approaching residents about land sales.
