Beacon Data Centers has unveiled plans for the Calvert Infrastructure Hub, a significant data center development situated in Calvert, Alabama, within Mobile County. The project, encompassing 95 acres out of a larger 650-acre parcel between Highway 43 and Shepard House Road, is touted as a major long-term investment aimed at boosting the region's economy, infrastructure, and job market.
The company emphasized the project's commitment to sustainable practices, highlighting that the facility will incorporate a closed-loop water system and will explicitly avoid evaporative cooling methods. South Alabama Utilities has confirmed a daily allocation of 7,500 gallons for public water and an equal amount for sewer usage, primarily intended for employee facilities, with water demands comparable to a small office building.
During peak construction, the Calvert Infrastructure Hub is expected to employ up to 1,000 construction workers. Upon completion, it will create approximately 250 operational jobs across various skill sets, including site and facilities management, server, HVAC, and facilities technicians, security, food service, and janitorial roles.
