Applied Digital holds town hall on AI data center campus in Brookwood
Applied Digital held a town hall about its planned $3.2 billion AI data center campus in Brookwood, which would include more than 1 million square feet of facilities on about 160 acres. The company highlighted local power infrastructure, jobs and community benefits, while some residents continue to raise environmental and other concerns ahead of a Brookwood City Council vote supporting the project.
Applied Digital hosted a community town hall in Brookwood to discuss its proposed $3.2 billion AI data center campus. The project would occupy roughly 160 acres and include more than 1 million square feet of facilities, with the company promising thousands of construction jobs, more than 100 permanent positions and substantial funding for schools and other community benefits.
Applied Digital Executive Vice President of External Affairs Nick Phillips said the site’s power infrastructure was a major factor in the selection and said retention ponds and other measures would address environmental risks. Mayor Joe Barger said the project is essentially settled after approval by the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority, although the Brookwood City Council still must vote on a supporting resolution. Some residents remain opposed or concerned, while resident Samantha Carter said the meeting left her cautiously optimistic.
