Ramus Development and Birtcher Development are proposing a 99-megawatt data center on 18 acres of the California Country Club in City of Industry, alongside a reconfigured nine-hole golf course. The project is in the permitting and environmental review process, with developers highlighting reduced water use, energy-efficient systems and new jobs.

Ramus Development and Birtcher Development have proposed the Los Angeles Recreation and Technology Park, a data center development on approximately 18 acres of the 124-acre California Country Club property at 1509 Workman Mill Road in City of Industry. The plan would replace nine holes of the existing 18-hole golf course with a data center and retain a reconfigured nine-hole course. Bloomberg reported that plans call for a 99-megawatt facility, while project materials estimate 1,500 construction jobs and 200 permanent positions.

Birtcher Development executive Brooke Birtcher Gustafson said the facility would use air-cooled chillers, resilient power systems and other measures intended to reduce water and energy consumption. The developers estimate the overall property’s water use could decline 13%, though that figure has not been independently verified. The project is subject to preparation and public review of a full environmental impact report, and site-specific approvals remain pending.

The proposal follows City of Industry action to advance zoning changes that would allow data centers in its Planned Development Overlay, subject to later project approval. The development is being pursued amid broader California concerns about data center water and electricity use, as well as opposition to similar projects in other communities.
