The Wood County planning commission voted 6-2 to recommend the rezoning of 13 properties adjacent to Meta's upcoming data center in Middleton Township, Ohio. This recommendation follows a request by Liames LLC, an engineer for Meta, to achieve consistent zoning across all of Meta's recently acquired land.

Meta purchased 32 acres in Middleton Township in April 2025, intending to build the 'Bowling Green data center'. The rezoning is sought to facilitate construction logistics, including equipment staging and landscaping buffers, on land north of Route 582 and east of Route 25, where previous homes and a motel have already been razed. Citizens have expressed discontent regarding Meta's lack of transparency about future plans for the land.

The decision now moves to the township zoning committee for a recommendation to the township trustees, who will cast the final vote. If the trustees approve the rezoning, opponents have 30 days to petition for the issue to be put to a public vote in the next general election.
