Construction of Bonner data center halted at mill location
Construction plans for an Idaho-based data center company, Krambu, at the Bonner Mill Industrial Park in Montana have been halted. The general manager withdrew his support for the application following community concerns, rendering the site unavailable for Krambu's project. Missoula County commissioners are also set to consider a one-year moratorium on new data center developments.
Plans for a proposed data center in Bonner, Montana, have been put on hold after Mike Heisey, general manager of the Bonner Mill Industrial Park, withdrew his support for the application. Heisey stated that he made this decision after hearing concerns from the community regarding the project. This means that Krambu, an Idaho-based data center company, can no longer pursue its development at the Bonner Mill site, which county officials confirm is "not on the table for them."
The announcement comes shortly before Missoula County commissioners are scheduled to vote on a one-year moratorium on new data center developments. County leaders indicate that this pause would allow them to thoroughly study the potential impacts of data centers before any new projects are permitted to proceed. NBC Montana plans to cover the upcoming county meeting and report on the decision.
