Residents of Jasper County, Missouri, concerned about the potential impact of two proposed data centers, recently convened a town hall meeting in Joplin. The gathering, attended by approximately 75 people, featured attorney Steve Jeffery of Chesterfield and geologist John Bognar of Washington, Missouri.
The discussion centered on the potential harms that data centers could cause and explored various options for halting their development. One proposed hyperscale data center is located north of Sarcoxie, near County Road 20, while another data center and solar farm complex is planned for the Wildwood area of Joplin, close to the Kansas state line, as well as eastern Jasper County.
Opposition to these data center projects is becoming a significant political issue, frequently surfacing in local and state election campaigns in the region.
