SpaceX may be involved in a proposed 747-acre data center and battery energy storage complex along U.S. 191 in unincorporated Cochise County, near the Apache Generating Station. The project, submitted by Tombstone Resources L.L.C., could include as many as nine computing buildings requiring up to 6 gigawatts of electricity, along with cooling, electrical and supporting infrastructure.

The company said the development could create thousands of construction jobs and potentially reduce electricity costs for some residents. Water demand remains unclear because it will depend on the facility’s cooling technology. SpaceX privately organized an informational meeting at Cochise Elementary, while Cochise County emphasized that it did not host or sponsor the event. A formal public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 9.
