DartPoints has acquired a 343,000 square foot data center campus spanning 30 acres in Lexington, Kentucky. This strategic acquisition is set to significantly expand DartPoints' infrastructure capabilities, catering to the growing demand for AI computing, hyperscale cloud services, and next-generation enterprise workloads. The newly acquired campus boasts 81,000 square feet of existing raised-floor data center space, an owned substation, and pre-approved zoning for data center use, which collectively streamline the development process by addressing common hurdles like power access and permitting timelines.

According to CEO Scott Willis, the Lexington site offers a "rare combination of existing infrastructure, a supportive power environment and the ability to scale in a meaningful way." The facility is being developed to accommodate high-density AI infrastructure, with an initial power capacity target of 20 to 30 megawatts and substantial long-term expansion potential, reaching up to 70 megawatts. It is designed to support deployments of up to 200 kilowatts per rack and will integrate advanced cooling systems, including both traditional air-cooled and direct-to-chip liquid cooling technologies, essential for managing the high thermal loads generated by AI hardware.

This move by DartPoints reflects a broader trend in the U.S. data center market, where operators are increasingly exploring secondary and tertiary markets to overcome constraints such as power scarcity, limited land availability, and rising costs in traditional data center hubs. Lexington's strategic location offers geographic and network advantages, along with potentially lower costs and faster deployment timelines. DartPoints also highlighted its collaboration with Kentucky Utilities, LG&E, and local economic development stakeholders as critical factors supporting accelerated development. Backed by infrastructure investment firm NOVA Infrastructure, DartPoints is positioning itself as a regional platform to meet the escalating AI-driven infrastructure demand, including that from specialized "neo-cloud" providers.
