Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said opposition to AI data centers is bipartisan, citing concerns in Pahrump, Boulder City and Minden about a proposed data center based in Yerington. He said that as governor he would halt future data center tax abatements until existing agreements are audited and require facilities to cover their own energy costs and grid expansion.
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford discussed data center policy during an interview about his campaign for governor. He said residents in Pahrump, Boulder City and Minden have raised bipartisan concerns about a Yerington-based AI data center and argued that communities should not be compelled to host facilities, including a possible project on public land in Boulder City.
Ford said he would stop future tax abatements for data centers until the state audits companies that have already received tax breaks. He also said he has introduced legislation that would require data centers to pursue their own rate cases, pay for grid expansion needed to serve their operations, avoid increasing costs for other consumers and use clean energy.
