Purcellville Letter Opposes Proposed Loudoun County Data Center Moratorium
A letter published by LoudounNow argues that the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors should reject a proposed moratorium on decisions involving data center and substation applications. The writer contends that pausing pending applications while new Phase II regulations are developed would be unlawful and unfair to applicants.
In a letter to LoudounNow, Nick Albu of Purcellville urged the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to reject a proposed pause on decisions involving data center and substation applications. Albu cited a county attorney memorandum that characterized a moratorium as a temporary halt and argued that renaming the measure a pause would not resolve its legal problems.
Albu said the proposed action would delay pending applications until the board develops Phase II regulations, despite the county's obligation to decide applications within required legal time frames. The letter maintains that supervisors can continue drafting new rules while processing existing applications fairly and lawfully.
