Columbia City Council tables data center issue
The Columbia City Council tabled a recommendation from its planning and zoning commission to implement a two-year moratorium on data center construction. Adair County officials are also expected to discuss a possible county-wide moratorium next week. There are currently no data center proposals in Columbia.
The Columbia City Council recently convened in a special session to address a recommendation from its planning and zoning commission regarding data center development. The commission had proposed a two-year moratorium on the construction of any new data centers within the city limits. However, the City Council opted to table the issue, deferring a decision to a subsequent meeting.
Simultaneously, discussions about potential data center moratoriums are also underway at the county level. Adair County Magistrate Chris Reeder indicated that the Adair County Fiscal Court is scheduled to discuss a possible county-wide moratorium on data center projects during its upcoming meeting. Columbia officials have confirmed that as of now, there are no specific data center proposals currently under consideration within the city.
