City further updates data center ordinance
The Perryville board of aldermen presented further updates on first reading to its ordinance on regulating potential data centers, incorporating public feedback. The proposed restrictions include requirements for lighting plans, stormwater prevention, environmental impact assessments, school board support, sewage treatment, fire protection, and a 500-foot setback from residential structures.
The Perryville board of aldermen held its August 18 meeting, during which further updates to an ordinance regulating potential data centers were presented on first reading. According to city administrator Brent Buerck, this version is not final and will undergo more amendments. It integrates requests made during the August 4 public comment period, introducing new restrictions such as requiring a lighting plan, a stormwater pollution and prevention plan, and an environmental impact assessment.
Additional requirements include a written letter of support from the PCSD #32 School Board, specifications for sewage treatment and fire protection, and a mandate that data centers be located at least 500 feet from residential structures, childcare, or developmentally disabled work centers, in addition to being confined to the industrial park. More public comments were received and noted by the board for future revisions. The board, in partnership with the Economic Development Agency, subsequently hosted a public presentation on the ordinance at the Robinson event center on August 25.
