A developer, Silver Fox 606, has withdrawn its proposal for a large data center in Indiantown, Florida, following community pushback. Simultaneously, residents continue to express environmental and quality-of-life concerns over a rezoning request by Florida Power and Light for undeveloped land, fearing it could lead to another data center despite FPL's primary plan for a substation.

In Indiantown, Florida, Silver Fox 606 has officially withdrawn its plans for a massive 2 million-square-foot data processing center, a move that follows significant community opposition reported by WPTV in February. The proposed facility, intended for 13820 Silver Fox Road, was part of a larger trend of data center proposals across the region, including Palm Beach County and Okeechobee. Despite this withdrawal, residents remain concerned about the potential for further data center development, particularly regarding a rezoning request by Florida Power and Light (FPL) for 5,700 acres on Kanner Highway. During a recent village council meeting, FPL stated they could build a data center on the site but emphasized it wasn't a definite plan, with a substation being the immediate project. Residents like Carroll Slay McAllister and Myrtle Green fear the rezoning is a precursor to data centers, citing concerns over environmental impact, water tables, wildlife, and noise pollution, which they believe would degrade their rural lifestyle. Indiantown Village Manager Taryn Kryzda supports the rezoning, noting that the planned unit development document includes protections, and that current plans only indicate a substation, not a data center.
