Data center opposition
A Florida-based company, Hut 8, is proposing to build a $5 billion data center in rural Logan County, Illinois. Local residents strongly oppose the project, raising concerns about disruption to rural life, potential electricity rate hikes and power disruptions, as well as the loss of prime farmland. The company says the data center would bring 200 high-paying jobs and over $50 million in annual property tax revenue, but locals doubt the economic benefits.
