Pitt County to hold public hearing on data center moratorium
Pitt County commissioners unanimously scheduled a Nov. 16 public hearing on a proposed temporary moratorium for data centers. County officials said the pause would allow time to study gaps involving electrical infrastructure, generator air quality, noise, water use and differing facility sizes, while residents spoke in support of the proposal.
Pitt County commissioners in North Carolina voted unanimously to schedule a Nov. 16 public hearing on a proposed temporary moratorium on data center development. Planning and Development Director Jonas Hill said the moratorium would give the county time to evaluate regulatory gaps, including standards for electrical load infrastructure, low-frequency noise, generator emissions and water consumption.
Residents including Don Cavellini and Zoey Dixon supported the proposal, citing potential environmental, social and employment impacts. The article said 24 North Carolina counties already have data center moratoriums, including Greene and Wake counties.
