Residents, union representatives and other community leaders testified at the Fairfax County Government Center against and in favor of Dominion Energy’s proposed merger with NextEra Energy. Opponents, including Tyler Ray, said the deal could accelerate data center growth and increase electricity costs, while supporters argued that the combination would provide resources and investment needed to meet rising power demand.

The Middle Atlantic Pipe Trades Association backed the merger because of potential construction and employment opportunities. Dominion said the combined company would serve about 10 million accounts across four states and help provide reliable, affordable electricity. Regulators will accept written comments through Nov. 9 and are expected to decide on the proposal in January 2027.
