Spartanburg County Council is poised to vote on a one-year moratorium on new data center developments. During a meeting on Monday night, the council gave authorization to the county administrator and county attorney to draft an ordinance that would temporarily halt the construction of new data centers.

Officials indicated that this measure is intended to provide South Carolina lawmakers with adequate time to establish state-level regulations concerning data centers. Concurrently, it would allow Spartanburg County to refine and amend its own zoning ordinances to address future data center projects.

A special county council meeting has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, June 22, where the ordinance will be put to a vote.
