Gov: Ferguson City Council
The Ferguson City Council recently advanced a bill proposing up to $1.5 billion in tax incentives for a developer planning to convert the former Emerson Electric campus into a tech hub and data center. This decision follows discussions held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, regarding the significant economic development project.
The proposed development is slated for Emerson Electric's former corporate headquarters off West Florissant Avenue. While proponents view the tax breaks as a crucial step to attract investment and revitalize the area, the measure faced considerable opposition from local residents.
At least a dozen community members vocally urged the council to reject the tax incentives. Their primary concerns revolved around the potential loss of city revenue, as well as anticipated harm to the local environment and neighboring residential properties. Despite these objections, the council chose to move the bill forward in the legislative process.
