The discussion was prompted by a general presentation from Paula Daneluk to the Butte County Water Commission. Daneluk clarified during her presentation that no application or developmental proposal for an AI data center had been received by her department, nor had there been any inquiries about such land use.
Despite the absence of a formal proposal, residents voiced serious concerns about the potential impact of data centers, particularly highlighting the strain on the area's water supply. Many urged officials to implement stringent regulations and mandate thorough environmental reviews for any future data center proposals, with one resident calling data centers "industrial resource vacuums."
