Residents of Clinton Township in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, gathered for a packed township meeting to offer input on a proposed data center ordinance. The community expressed strong concerns about major data center developments moving into the area and emphasized the need for protective land development rules. Many residents shared personal stories, stating they moved to the township for its quiet environment and feared losing their property and way of life due to potential data center construction.
The township's board of supervisors is currently working on updating its Land Development Rules, known as SALDO, to safeguard residents. During the meeting, residents offered suggestions for improving the draft ordinance, with some urging the supervisors to allocate funds for an attorney to correctly draft the SALDO agreement.
A six-month moratorium is currently in place, providing the township time to develop new regulations; however, only five months remain, and there has already been an attempt by a developer to submit an application. Residents voiced fears that the ordinance might not be passed before the moratorium expires. Plans for the proposed ordinance are expected to be presented at the township's planning commission meeting on June 4th, providing residents with more information about future developments.
