Google has revealed plans for a new data center in LaGrange, Georgia, marking its second such facility in the state. This new Troup County site is designed to be among the most energy-efficient in the industry, supporting Google's global services like Maps, Search, and YouTube.
In conjunction with the data center development, Google is investing in local energy affordability and environmental initiatives. The company has pledged to cover all power and infrastructure costs for the new facility, aiming to alleviate financial burdens on local residents and potentially stabilize utility rates.
Key partnerships include a $1 million donation to Groundswell's SOUL program, which will fund home safety and efficiency upgrades for over 50 families in LaGrange to reduce energy costs. Additionally, Google is collaborating with the Trust for Public Land to restore the Chattahoochee River habitat by removing invasive plants, with the goal of improving local water quality and ensuring greater water availability for the region.
Local officials, including T. Scott Malone, President of the Development Authority of LaGrange, and LaGrange City Manager Patrick Bowie, expressed strong support for Google's investment, highlighting its role in advancing the AI economy and strengthening the local utility system. Jen Ryan, Regional Head of Data Center Public Affairs at Google, reiterated the company's commitment to its partnership with Georgia, emphasizing the state's reputation for innovation.
