Missoula County to present findings of data center study
Missoula County will present findings from a study examining the impacts of data centers while its temporary moratorium on new or expanding facilities remains in place. The study is evaluating concerns including energy and water use, air quality, noise and vibration, and potential regulations.
Missoula County is preparing to present the findings of a study launched after it adopted a temporary moratorium on new or expanding data centers through interim zoning. The county said state law requires the study to verify the emergency circumstances supporting the moratorium and identify potential regulatory responses before changes are implemented.
The county cited data center impacts involving energy and water consumption, air quality, noise and vibration. The public presentation is scheduled for Oct. 27 at the county fairgrounds, after which officials will begin pursuing potential solutions and a longer-term regulatory path.
