Key concerns among farmers center on the potential impact on their land and cattle, fearing health detriments to livestock and soil degradation. Tim Schafer, a livestock producer who organized the meeting, expressed dismay at the amount of farm ground, trees, and wildlife that would be affected by the proposed facility. Another objective of the meeting was to convey residents' opposition directly to local elected officials, urging greater transparency and advocating for a moratorium on data center construction.
A contentious moment occurred when Nodaway County South District Commissioner Scott Walk addressed the audience, stating he was neither for nor against the data center. Veronica Hupp, a Buchanan County resident, also attended, expressing fears for her grandchildren's future and noting that St. Joseph might also be a target for data center development.
