Project Oak data center hearing rescheduled to Aug. 25
The public hearing for the Project Oak data center in Coweta County, Georgia, has been rescheduled to August 25 at the developers' request. Developers, Headwaters Site Development and LDO Coweta, are revising their site plan and seeking to remove a square footage cap. Residents continue to voice strong opposition to the project.
Developers Headwaters Site Development and LDO Coweta successfully requested the Coweta County Board of Commissioners reschedule the public hearing for the Project Oak data center to August 25, citing the need to redesign their site plan. The revised plan now focuses on developing only the parcel already zoned for industrial use, foregoing the previously intended rezoning of a northern parcel from rural conservation. Additionally, the developers are seeking to remove a condition from a prior rezoning in April 2024 that limited the site to office and warehouse uses with a maximum square footage.
During the board meeting, residents expressed strong opposition. Robin Angus criticized the attempt to remove the square footage cap as "irresponsible and reckless" and claimed the mandatory community meeting requirement was not met due to the evolving site plan. Draye Blake, representing the Herring Farms neighborhood, stated their community is "united in absolute opposition to Project Oak," citing incompatibility with the area and stalled property values. Despite the public outcry, the commissioners unanimously voted to reschedule the hearing.
