County to discuss moratorium next week

The Vance County Board of County Commissioners' Planning and Environmental Committee is set to convene on Monday, August 10, to deliberate on the procedural requirements for implementing a moratorium. District 5 Commissioner Leo Kelly confirmed that this discussion is directly related to data centers.
The committee's meeting follows a regular board session where several residents addressed commissioners for nearly 30 minutes, advocating for a moratorium and expressing opposition to a specific data center project located on U.S. 158. District 4 Commissioner Brummitt reiterated his interest in a 60-day moratorium, with the exact duration to be determined by the committee, which includes himself, Kelly, and District 6 Commissioner Yolanda Feimster.
In addition to the moratorium discussions, the Board of County Commissioners will address Chapter 5 of the Unified Development Ordinance during an upcoming work session. This chapter specifically outlines regulations pertaining to data centers, indicating a broader review of local development rules for the industry.
