Residents in Yorkville have filed a lawsuit to stop the construction of a proposed data center by Pioneer Development LLC, citing concerns about noise, traffic, and water usage. The lawsuit claims the city illegally rezoned land for the project without proper studies and public notice, despite the Yorkville City Council having approved the plan. This action highlights ongoing community opposition to the development.

Residents of Yorkville, Illinois, including Chuck Kasper, have filed a lawsuit to block the construction of a large data center project by Pioneer Development LLC. The proposed facility, which could include up to 14 buildings and take 20 years to construct, is planned for a site just 112 feet from Kasper's home and across the street from Dorothy Flisk's Legacy River Equestrian Center. Flisk expressed fears that the significant noise from construction and operation would harm her horse business. The lawsuit alleges that the City of Yorkville improperly rezoned over 1,000 acres from residential to industrial for the project without conducting necessary studies, such as noise analysis, traffic impact studies, or cooling water consumption assessments. It also claims the city and developers failed to provide adequate public notice to nearby property owners before approving the project. Yorkville City Administrator Bart Olson stated the city had not yet received the lawsuit and therefore could not comment. He confirmed that public meetings were held regarding the data center plan, but did not address the claims of insufficient public notice. Olson also noted that the Yorkville City Council had approved the data center, but Pioneer Development LLC has not yet closed on the property.
