Gov: St. Joseph County Drainage Board
The St. Joseph County Drainage Board once again tabled a request from Amazon to dewater 35 million gallons of water per day at its data center construction site in New Carlisle, Indiana. The decision came during a packed meeting where local residents and farmers expressed strong opposition to the proposal. The dewatering is necessary for Amazon to install utility lines at the construction site, but locals fear the significant water discharge into the Niespodziany Ditch will negatively impact their land, especially during a challenging year for farming.
Farmer Brian Bailey highlighted the potential additional burden on an already struggling agricultural season. The board's decision to table the request provides more time for discussion and potential alternative solutions. The St. Joseph County Drainage Board is expected to reconvene next month to vote on Amazon's dewatering request, unless an earlier special session is scheduled.
