Edmond City Council to review data center moratorium and development regulations
The Edmond City Council is reviewing proposed development regulations for data centers after imposing a six-month moratorium in June. The discussion follows opposition and concerns about water usage, while Piedmont and Enid are also considering data center-related projects.
The Edmond City Council is scheduled to discuss how data centers should be treated under the city’s development regulations. Planning Director Ken Bryan is expected to present the council with draft language addressing data centers as a potential land use in Edmond.
The review follows a six-month data center moratorium approved by Edmond in June, part of a broader effort by Oklahoma City-area communities to study the industry. The report said the process has drawn significant opposition and concerns about water consumption. Piedmont is considering a rezoning application for a data center, while Enid is expected to hear developers’ plans for Project Thunderbird.
