Gov: Botetourt County, Botetourt County Board of Supervisors
Google officially announced plans for a data center campus in Botetourt County, Virginia, following its purchase of approximately 312 acres for $14 million in June 2025. The company has also committed an additional $4 million to support County initiatives over the next five years.
This development, located at the Botetourt Center at Greenfield—the only area in the County zoned for data centers—is touted as a transformative investment. Botetourt County Administrator Gary Larrowe and Board of Supervisors Chair Mac Scothorn highlighted the project's expected benefits, including an incremental tax base of at least $10 million annually from each of the three data centers planned for the campus. This new revenue is earmarked for public safety, school infrastructure, and other County amenities.
Google emphasized its commitment to "Responsible Infrastructure Development," pledging to cover 100% of the power and water costs, which will also bolster regional utilities. Amber Tillman, Head of Data Center Public Affairs, North America, stated that Google aims to drive innovation while protecting local resources and investing in the local workforce. The project, previously speculative, is now confirmed and is anticipated to be among the largest corporate investments in Southwest Virginia's history, providing economic growth and enhanced connectivity.
