Oregon Governor Tina Kotek is scheduled to hold a media availability to discuss the implementation of the state's POWER Act. This new law, set to take effect in 2025, aims to ensure that large data centers bear a greater portion of the costs associated with the electricity infrastructure they require.

The legislation is designed to protect residential and small business customers from subsidizing the rapid increase in energy demand driven by these facilities. The POWER Act specifically requires utilities to establish separate tariff structures for large energy-use facilities, defined as those consuming 20 megawatts or more of electricity, primarily targeting data centers.
