Shapiro Aide: 100 Data Centers Floated in PA, Only 2 Fully Permitted
A senior aide to Governor Shapiro disclosed that while 100 data center projects have been announced in Pennsylvania, only two have secured full permits. This reveals a significant gap between initial proposals and actual development.
Sam Robinson, Deputy Chief of Staff for Gov. Josh Shapiro, disclosed to the Department of Environmental Protection's Environmental Justice Advisory Board the actual status of numerous data center projects in Pennsylvania. Speaking on Wednesday, August 12, Robinson detailed the permitting process, indicating a bottleneck in development.
According to Robinson, approximately 100 AI data center projects have been publicly announced or "floated" across the state. However, only a meager two of these proposed data centers have successfully navigated the entire permitting funnel and are fully authorized to proceed with construction.
