More details for Allenwood data center proposal surface
Union County commissioners ordered PNK Group to halt non-protective construction of an electrical substation intended to serve its proposed Allenwood data center campus. The county said the developer lacked required approvals and should provide information about the broader project before resubmitting its application. PPL Electric is also planning a 6.8-mile, 230-kilovolt transmission line to supply the facility.
Union County commissioners issued a cease-and-desist letter directing PNK Group to stop most construction on an electrical substation for its proposed three-building data center campus near Allenwood. The county said PNK had not obtained the necessary approvals and that the substation could not be reviewed separately from the larger project. Safety, environmental-protection and site-security work may continue, but the developer has 30 days to confirm that other construction has stopped.
The substation is adjacent to a 478,000-square-foot building at Great Stream Commons that PNK plans to retrofit for data center use. Commissioners denied an earlier approval request because of insufficient information and advised the developer to wait until Gregg Township considers a zoning-ordinance amendment governing where data centers may be built. Separately, PPL Electric Utilities has identified a preferred route for a 6.8-mile, double-circuit 230-kilovolt transmission line from the Elimsport area to the business park, with construction projected for 2027 through 2029 pending regulatory approval.
