Palm Beach County zoning staff approved expanding Project Tango in western Palm Beach County to nearly 700,000 square feet of data center space without another vote by county commissioners. Arden residents criticized the process, while the approval includes an 850-foot buffer, sound studies, noise monitoring and closed-loop cooling requirements.

Palm Beach County zoning staff approved an Oct. 7 plan to increase data center capacity at Project Tango from 200,000 to 698,000 square feet within an existing master plan. County officials said the proposed warehouse, data processing and minor utility uses qualified for administrative approval under the Unified Land Development Code, rather than requiring another vote by the Board of County Commissioners.

Arden residents, including Ben Brown, said they were blindsided and expected the project to return to county commissioners for review. The approval includes an 850-foot buffer from Arden, sound studies, continuing noise monitoring and a closed-loop cooling system. PBA Holdings has appealed the county's rejection of a larger expansion, while a separate WPB Logistics Owner application remains under review. County commissioners were also expected to consider hiring a consultant to rewrite zoning rules for large artificial intelligence data centers amid a county data center moratorium.
