S. Annville discusses updates to zoning ordinance for data center developments
South Annville Township supervisors are discussing updates to the township's zoning ordinance to address future data center developments. The goal is to make the ordinance as restrictive as legally possible within Pennsylvania law before new data center proposals emerge. The draft ordinance will be reviewed by the planning commission and county planning department, followed by a public hearing.
South Annville Township supervisors are actively working to update the township's zoning ordinance to specifically address data center developments, with the aim of having new regulations in place before any further proposals are submitted. At a June 10 meeting, supervisors, led by Chairman Dale Hoover, discussed initial drafts with residents represented by Michael Schroeder.
Hoover emphasized the challenge of creating restrictive zoning within the bounds of Pennsylvania law, stating that overly restrictive measures could be overturned by courts. The draft ordinance will undergo review by the South Annville Township Planning Commission and the Lebanon County Planning Department. Following these reviews, the draft will be advertised for a public hearing, after which the supervisors will consider it for approval. Township solicitor Josele Cleary is assisting in drafting the ordinance.
