Another lawsuit filed over OpenAI’s proposed Effingham County data center
An environmental group and five residents have filed a lawsuit against the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority regarding OpenAI's proposed $20 billion data center. The lawsuit alleges violations of Georgia's open meetings and open records laws, and challenges the transfer of public land to an OpenAI affiliate. The Authority has not yet been served and cannot comment on the claims.
An environmental group named "One Hundred Miles" and five residents of Effingham County have filed a new lawsuit concerning OpenAI's proposed $20 billion data center project in the area. The legal action targets the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority.
The lawsuit accuses the Authority of violating Georgia's Open Meetings and Open Records laws in connection with the data center deal. Additionally, the plaintiffs are challenging the transfer of public land to an affiliate of OpenAI. The Effingham County Industrial Development Authority informed WJCL that it has not yet been officially served with the lawsuit, therefore it cannot comment on the specific allegations. However, a spokesperson for the Authority stated its commitment to conducting business in accordance with applicable laws.
