Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp formally introduced a resolution for a one-year moratorium on new data centers in unincorporated Hamilton County to the Hamilton County Commission. The proposed measure, introduced on Wednesday evening, seeks to prohibit the construction of new data centers for a year to allow for a study into their potential impact on rural infrastructure.
While most commissioners expressed support for the moratorium, some, including Commissioner Jeff Eversole, questioned if a 12-month period would be sufficient, citing other counties that have implemented longer or even permanent bans due to resource concerns.
The Hamilton County Commission is slated to vote on the data center resolution on July 15.
