New Buffalo Township in Michigan has enacted a one-year moratorium on data center development. Township officials approved the pause on permits and approvals on April 8, aiming to review and adjust local zoning regulations. Supervisor Michelle Heit stated that this period provides the township with time for a thoughtful approach before new proposals come forward.
The decision was prompted by attention surrounding a 114-acre land sale on Kluver Road, linked to an investment group involved in Michigan City's "Project Maize." However, officials clarify that no formal project proposal has yet been submitted.
