Douglas County Commissioners voted late Tuesday afternoon to approve a $19 million tax rebate for a new data center under construction in Parker, Colorado. This agreement provides a rebate for Douglas County's share of business personal property taxes, which are levied on the facility's equipment.
The data center, identified as the Flexential Data Center, is a 249,000 square-foot facility being built on a 17-acre site on Compark Boulevard. A company representative confirmed that the center will use a closed-loop water system and will pay for its own electricity. The project is anticipated to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in local revenue annually. The Town of Parker had already approved the data center's construction before this tax incentive vote.
Initially placed on the consent agenda without public comments, the item was moved to allow public input due to significant interest. Despite several residents voicing opposition to the tax incentive during the meeting, the commissioners ultimately voted in favor. Commissioners stated they routinely approve such tax incentives to attract businesses to Douglas County.
