Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg's news conference was interrupted by anti-data center protestors who chanted and displayed a banner, urging the mayor to "pick a side" on the issue. Mayor Greenberg acknowledged the protestors' activism, recognizing their advocacy for an important community issue related to data centers.
The mayor then outlined the city's recent actions concerning data centers, including proposed regulations aimed at banning hyperscale data centers across the entire county. He noted that the public comment period for these regulations recently concluded, generating over 3,600 comments, which he attributed to the strong public sentiment demonstrated by the protest.
Four public hearings are scheduled to gather further community input on the proposed data center regulations. The first hearing is set for July 27th at JCTC's Southwest campus, followed by sessions on August 5th at the Shelbyhurst campus, an online hearing on August 6th, and a final hearing on August 10th at the African American Heritage Center, all commencing at 5 p.m. Following these hearings, deliberations from the planning commission are slated for August 20th.
