Mount Pleasant’s Planning Commission unanimously approved revised plans for Microsoft’s data center, reducing the project from nine buildings to seven while increasing total space to about 5.88 million square feet. The site plan modifications still require Village Council approval, while Sturtevant residents are suing Microsoft over noise and the commission has requested additional sound mitigation.

The Village of Mount Pleasant Planning Commission approved revised site plans for Microsoft’s proposed data center at 12023 Durand Ave. The updated project includes seven buildings totaling 5,878,080 square feet, 10 parking lots, internal roads, stormwater ponds, sound walls and perimeter fencing. Microsoft said the changes are intended to enable faster development and access to additional capacity, not reduce the project’s scope.

Project documents estimate a taxable value of about $6.1 billion and $103.1 million in incremental tax revenue over 40 years. The modifications now go to the Mount Pleasant Village Council, with full construction potentially taking up to a decade. The commission also requested additional sound mitigation along the project’s west side, and Sturtevant residents have sued Microsoft over noise complaints tied to the data center.
