EdgeConneX is seeking Ohio approval to build a 430-megawatt natural gas plant in New Albany to power its planned data centers. The proposal faces opposition from Save Ohio Parks, residents and environmental advocates over emissions, health risks and impacts on nearby farms, with public testimony scheduled before the Ohio Power Siting Board.

EdgeConneX has asked the Ohio Power Siting Board to approve a natural gas power plant off Clover Valley Road in New Albany. The facility would include 30 natural gas engines, diesel and black-start generators, provide up to 430 megawatts for the company’s New Albany data centers and emit an estimated 488.7 tons of pollutants annually. EdgeConneX says emissions would remain within legal limits and that the project would generate tax revenue, jobs and energy capacity for local communities, including Johnstown-Monroe Schools.

The proposal is drawing opposition from Save Ohio Parks, environmental advocates and nearby residents. Board President Cathy Cowan Becker argues the data centers should use renewable energy, while farmer Gerri Campbell says locating the plant near his property could threaten his family’s livelihood. The Ohio Power Siting Board is scheduled to hear public comments at New Albany High School, as EdgeConneX targets construction this year and operation by late 2027.
